Guildford Roofing Systems
There are a number of different materials that can be used when building a roof, each with different benefits and weaknesses and some better suited for different types of buildings, climates and budgets. Here are some, but not all, of the most popular materials that Roofing Guildford work with and are able to install. We will be happy to discuss the benefits of each and advise on which would be most suitable for your property.
Felt Roofing: More often than not, you'll probably find that felt roofing systems are the cheapest roofing option and tend to usually last between 10-20 years, depending on how well they are installed. This roofing system is usually a combination of three felt layers that are welded together using a large blowtorch. Although this may deteriorates over time it is quite straightforward to repair and patch, making it a cost-effective option if you’re on a tight budget. Felt roofing is often a good choice for flat roofs such as garages, sheds and extensions.
Metal Roofing: Metal roofs are a common option used by commercial properties, owing to the durability of the materials, the speed it takes to install and the low cost of maintenance. Most commercial properties also have flat roofs which lends itself very well to metal roof materials such as corrugated iron, steel and aluminium. While traditionally metal roofs have been seen as less aesthetically pleasing and avoided on residential properties, these days they are becoming more popular as there are now more appealing designs that fit in with a new age looking house and they are particularly popular among self builds due to there simplicity.
Rubber Roofing: These systems are simple to install with a single layer being attached to the deck with adhesive, eliminating the need for any joins. EDPM is lightweight and resilient and can have a lifespan of 25 to 50 years if treated well. Although this option is more expensive than some cheaper roofing systems, it is still a very affordable option that won’t stretch your pocket, and a popular choice among many of our customers particularly those with flat roofs.
Cement, Clay and Slate Roofing: Slate, clay and cement tiles offer a wide range of colours, shapes and finishes that are particularly popular with residential properties or properties where look and finish are important because they offer such a classic and appealing look. Slat and clay are the most desirable but will cost a bit more due to the fact that it has to be extracted or mined from a quarry. Cement on the other hand can be made to look like slate or clay but at a more affordable price and for that reason are becoming more popular. These tiled roofs are more commonly used on pitched roofs but can still be used on flatter roofs. The installation process is a little more complicated and time consuming than some of the other systems we have mentioned above but at Roofing Guildford our team have the experience to give you that classic finish to suite any style of house.
